At parent company level, turnover decreased by 23,11% to € 40,58 million, compared to € 53,17 million in the previous year, EBITDA for the year 2019 amounted to € 11,23 million compared to € 21,52 million, in the previous year, showing an decrease of 47,81% , and earnings before tax amounted to € 6,04 million compared to € 18,5 million, decreased of 67,35%.
Correspondingly, on a consolidated basis, turnover decreased by 26,4% to EUR 44,49 million compared to EUR 60,45 million in the previous year, EBITDA for the year 2019 amounted to EUR 11,67 million, EUR 23,56 million in the previous year, showing an decrease of 50,46% and earnings before taxes amounted to EUR 5,96 million against EUR 22,21 million, an decreased of 73.16%.
The decline in sales is due to the 39% decrease in the production of Volakas blocks (despite the demand from the Chinese market),
- on the one hand due to bad weather conditions that prevailed in the first semester of 2019 and,
- on the other hand, due to the fact that the company proceeded in 2019 in the implementation of a new investment plan, the new underground mining system in Volakas quarry. The implementation of this new method aims at the extraction of good deposit through underground roads, without the obligation of surface exposure and rejection of sterile by-products.
This method will allow to the company to fully meet the increased demand and at the same time with higher quality marble. Regarding the prospects for 2020, the company announced a statement on 3/4/2020 within the frame of the continuous information of its investment public.
